Breaking 5,000 Listeners + Press for “感嘆符 (!)” on Ghost FM

I was quite happy to discover the other day that my music on Last.fm had been heard by over 5,000 listeners! This was my initial goal to reach when I put up my very first compilation in the beginning – I’m astounded to really see it happen. I think I owe it to everyone to get going on a new release more soonishly than I’d originally planned, the nature of which is still top-secret! Thank you so much for tuning in to my music, it keeps me hopeful and inspired.

Meanwhile, Pedram from Ghost FM (brilliantly designed and hosted on Tumblr) has recently written a very nice piece on my 2009 Ermine EP featuring “感嘆符 (!)”:

What Goes On: College, Music Projects, + Reads

I know I’ve said it a gazillion times before, but I really do plan on utilizing the website with my own namesake more! (The last time I said this was in May…) I’ve gotten myself into a jumble of projects and have recently done my best to try to streamline much of what I’ve got going on, including this very site: new background, some removal of needless pages and general uncluttering, fancy widgets and links on the sidebar. Oh yeah, I’m a productivity machine. On the subject of productivity, one book I’ve been perusing – read: devouring and wholeheartedly applying to great effect in my endeavors! – is Timothy Ferris’ The Four-Hour Workweek, which was recommended to me by fellow independent musician Snail Quail (a talented chap you’d do well to check out, touring the US soon as well). It’s got a boatload of helpful information for 9-5′ers and entrepreneurs alike, particularly about maximizing productivity and spending less time working while doing more of what you love. Other books I’ve been digging into are Ben Myers’ Richard (fact-based fiction on the life of Richey Edwards from the Manic Street Preachers; review from me coming up on it at A Future in Noise later this month) and Stephen King’s On Writing (one of the most motivational writing books I’ve ever read!).

What else have I been doing, hmm.

- Enrolled in college, a wholly new experience for me as I’ve only done on-line music classes previously. Major: journalism!

- Working on a *top secret* PR project, the fruits of my labors in this department might not be revealed until later this year / early next year…

- Vulpiano Records has been plugging along, latest releases by Microscopes and Richey Hackett. I plan to retire the Moonfruit Vulpiano site soon, August/September 2010, and solely use the Tumblr as I prefer the functionality and it’s not flash-based like Moonfruit.

- A new single or maybe even an EP due from me for the autumn/winter of 2010, these works also shrouded in mystery for now.

I plan to be updating MarilynRoxie.com on a semi-regular basis, weekly or bi-weekly depending on the amount of news and fabulous things I find to share with you all. Hope you are having a lovely summer,

Future Plans…

Just as I plan on soon making a post about my music blog The Future of A Future in Noise, I felt it’s about time to get thing sorted out properly over here too. I just renewed MarilynRoxie.com for another year last night (and in the nick of time, as it was about to expire today!), and so I am also planning on remodeling things here layout-wise, adding more content to the site overall, and definitely making more regular posts about what I am up to. I’ve not put out any music since the “Zug der Krautrock” single last year, though I’ve been in the midst of recording again and hope to put out a single or even an EP in June/July if possible. My netlabel Vulpiano Records will also be having some further activity, which has primarily been focused over at the newer Tumblr home: http://vulpiano.tumblr.com/

Things have been a bit slow-ish projects-wise (I was on a trip to England not long ago, plus my mom’s health is not in the best shape, something I’d posted about here: http://neonsigh.tumblr.com/post/472092978), but I’m determined to pick up the pace again. Being that I’ve name-dropped Tumblr twice so far (oi, three times now!), you could probably guess that’s where my interwebz energies have been going – I’m also now running a Krautrock-centric one too!

Keep your eyes peeled for further, more detailed announcements and project info, I’m also in the midst with getting back in touch with those who I’d been working with previously, my inbox is a danger-zone…! For now, a new ‘press photo’ of me at left (taken around Bayswater in London) and some of what I’ve been listening to as of late:

Ah, the somewhat-belated New Years post…well, there are many changes that have been, and will be, taking place. For starters:

Vulpiano Records: This is by no means complete, and very much ‘in beta’ – see also A Future in Noise, Label Feature: Vulpiano Records and this new interview with me conducted by Mark Zonda from Sleepwalking Mag. As I’ve said before: “The concept is based around each artist offering at least one single / EP / album for free (via Creative Commons licensing), while the option for distribution via digital stores and limited-run physical copies will be available all the while.” Stay tuned for more information on this – there are more releases to come and lots of tweaking to do with it until it is just right and ready to be promoted on a wider scale!
I may…possibly…be working on some covers with other musicians, maybe some soundtrack music, maybe a new little EP or single? And new press photos too? Hush-hush at the moment! ;P
On the A Future in Noise front, I plan to get back into the groove of posting – an array of special features are already dancing about in my mind…:P

Lots of plans for 2010! Hope all of you take some time to square your goals away (I recommend 43things for this, personally) and get down to accomplishing them.

Latest Happenings + Record Label Launch Forthcoming!

In the process of doing a re-design here; the layout is now more user-friendly and blog-esque!

I was mentioned in an Italian newspaper piece about theband Tiny Tide (I’ve collaborated with Mark Zonda, from the band before) and me and the collaborative Earth EP were mentioned! Here is a Google-aided, loose translation of what was said and the original article scan below (originally posted at the Tiny Tide blog):
